Hi, I’m ShortAxle, Andrew Charman, living with my family in beautiful mid Wales in the UK and a journalist since 1985.

I trained on newspapers, eventually editing a couple as well as motoring magazines in the new car, modified car, classic car and motorsport sectors.

Since the turn of the millennium I’ve been a freelance, mainly in the motoring and motorsport market but more recently diversifying into heritage rail and engineering – part of my monthly job these days is to edit the magazines Narrow Gauge World and Engineering in Miniature. I’ve also written three books with more on the way.

  1. There you are! Great to hear from you Vic. During lockdown I sorted a lot of my old photos and started posting them on Instagram – for some memories have a look at AndrewCsTracksideArchive ! I wondered then what had happened to my marshal friends, especially you, Nigel and Paul. I have seen Dave Barnes at a couple of motorsport a few years ago.
